Feeling thankful to still be able to give

Through the many changes that we have experienced in eleven years of running a small business, in a very small town, we have managed to be here for our guests year round. We are very thankful for the opportunity to serve in this beautiful location by the Saratoga Passage. We see this as a critical time for all people to address their healing needs. We encourage you to reach out for assistence from those of us who have the skills and desire to assist in the many layers of healing that are required of us all to continue to grow and expand our awareness and effectiveness as a people. Halloween fun at Spa Essencia

Decorating for this season is always fun with a bit of mischief weaved in too. We have three pumpkins on display . One is a light, wooden grapevine design and the other a much remarked upon blown glass beauty of green and apricot hues. the third holds a selection of teas for our guests and staff to keep warm when they come in out of the wind.
Our headless maniquin is posing as a witch in her white robe with a black tierra. The flowers are now purple and brown; dried versions of the bright farmers market varieties that we enjoyed all summer.  An oil lamp graces our outside front entry for soft lighting, as the shadow of the night creeps up all too soon as winter approaches.

Autumn blowing in across the great waters

I love this last blast of warm wind that comes to the islands; before the real chill follows to settle into our bones. Our private steam room has been popular this last week as people adjust to the change in temperature and try to stave off the colds that can come up when we forget to layer up for the chillly weather.

Wow summer went fast!  With the onset of Fall, our hours are now variable by appointment requests, Sunday through Thursday and 10am to 6pm, Friday and Saturday.  What this means is our front desk will be open only when there are appointments requested during the week and 10am till 6pm on Friday and Saturday.
We will continue to check our toll free voice mail at 877.221.0744 and email info@spaessencia.com several times each day and respond as promptly as possible.  Through our website you can send us an appointment request 48hrs ahead by email to which we can respond asap. Gift Certificates can still be purchased from our front desk. Call ahead if you have time and we'll meet you here or deliver to you anywhere on south of Greenbank on whidbey island.  And now, you can choose from one of the designs on line, and print a gift certificate instantly. Chill in the air

Anna has told me that she will continue to be available to work at the spa weekdays through the fall as her move to Portland has been postponed.

New Times for Fall through late Spring.

Beginning October 12, 2010 the spa desk will be closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays with early closure on Mondays and Thursdays depending on the flow of requests for services. Appointments for services mid -week can possibly be arranged with 72 hours notice by phone or email. We will check messages twice a day even when the desk is closed. Gift certificates can be ordered online 24hrs a day, 7 days a week for that special someone you wish to pamper.

Karen Epifano has returned from Florida!

Long time staff member Karen Epifano has returned from her long trip back east. See her bio on our web site to learn more about her work here at Spa Essencia. She reports she had a fine celebration of a landmark birthday with her family. To return she took the cross country train with a stop in Kansas to see a former Spa Essencia member, Tadja Bennett-Williams. Welcome back Karen.

Presence

I was gently reminded yesterday by wise woman, Donna Varnau, of the power of presence. That being present is a practice not something that just comes to you. That being present requires us to slow down. That if one person can stay present in the midst of a kafuffal there is hope of peaceful resolution. That presence is eternal.
Today, as I sat by the waterside having a lunch break, I felt myself slow down again and more deeply appreciate the blues of the earth and sky. Peace came over me. Now to hold that energy as I come back in and hold the space here in the Spa. Ahhh.

Farm and Food adventures in and around langley on Whidbey Island

Remember when you are here to enjoy the abundant orchards and fresh farm produce of the island. Pick your own berry farms are popular. Chef Matt of the Inn at Langley as well as other local chefs create sumptious dinners often including local Dungeness crab and Penn Cove mussels, from right up the road in Coupeville. The Bayview and Tilth saturday farmers markets showcase an array of choices. They run from 10am till 2ish.
There are also award winning wineries on the island, the most notable is Whidbey Island Winery right here in Langley on Langley rd. close to town. This year they were honored with the Double Gold Seattle Wine award 2010 for their Rose.
So much to do with all your vacation time! Yeah summer!

Cool breeze on whidbey island

Down at Seawall park and beach, straight out from the four corners of Langley's First St., we enjoy cool breezes no matter the temperture up in town. At our seawall sitting area, there are several comfortable wooden beach chairs and slate side tables provided by the Inn for all to relax with the view before or after a spa appointment. Come cool off with us.

This weekend, our Chochookum Arts and Music Festival is happening as it does every July. Come walk around the festivities and then come in and put up your feet at Spa Essencia . We'll take good care of you.

Facebook surpasses Google with visits per day!

This news got my attention at the recent ISPA Knowledge Network seminar that I attended in Santa Rosa, California last Monday the 16th. Marketing and Social Media Specialist Kathleen announced this with a big smile. I think this fact is what spurred me on to learn more about managing my Facebook business page, do a Facebook offer in an Ad and generally embrace the whole social media revolution. I am now convinced, that if a curious person isn't standing here in the PSa asking me questions that Facebook is the best new way to reach out to people and share with them what a great experience they can have here with us . And her advice to master one media first and then move on to learning another one was a welcome relief.
So,with that in mind, I'll save learning Twitter till I fully understand the Facebook universe. Keeps an old hoofer on her toes!

10 tips for a great Spa Essencia experience

1) Before you leave home, check with your healthcare provider, by phone, to see if any treatment, including the steam bath, may be contra-indicated. We can not decide this for you as we are not able to diagnose or prescribe.

2) Arrive 15 minutes early to begin relaxing with us. Enjoy a cup of tea or water and take in the view of Saratoga Passage while filling out our health intake form.

3) Wear comfortable easy-to-slip-on-and-off clothing. We are on the often windy beach level of the inn, so a jacket, sweatshirt, sweater or shawl may be needed to stay warm when you depart the spa.

4) Let our staff know right away if you are uncomfortable in any way. We will respond to the utmost of our abilities.

5) If you have chosen the steam bath we provide you with a comfortable spa robe, slippers, and plenty of towels. There is a shower for your use before or after your treatments.


6) All full body treatments (massage/wraps/body polish) can be done at your comfort level regarding your choice to wear underpants or not. We use standard draping techniques so that you will be modestly covered and warm at all times. If you have further questions, please talk with your therapist. For facials, you will be given a terry wrap and warm socks. we recommend you leave your underpants on.

7) All treatment tables in the massage rooms have an added layer of padding and are covered with an electric warming pad, a set of sheets, and a blanket. We use bolsters, wedges, small, standard and body length pillows to support you.

8) Tips are not included in the price per service. 18 -20 percent is the standard in the spa industry. If you feel the therapist did an excellent job at meeting your requests, we have small envelopes for cash tips at the front desk. You can add a tip to a credit card or inn room charge or a personal check.

9) Check with our front desk staff for any discounts or current sales you might benefit from on the day of your appointment.

Ask about our Loyality card program . You can earn $50 to $100 credit off once you spend $500 to $1000 over time.

10) If you were given a gift card be sure to bring it with you when you come in for your appointment. We sell our own cards at the spa and have an instant print gift card on our web site. We also accept Spa Finders and Spa Wish cards.

Welcome Renee Cunningham to our staff!

Renee brings her training in esthetics and massage at the Florida College of Natural Health to her seat at our front desk. She is excited to join our staff and will be here most weekends and several weekdays to assist our guests. She loves to talk about skincare products and will help you find just what you need.

New massage therapist joins our team!

A wonderful massage therapist has joined our team. Melanie Evans from Whidbey island has come on to work Saturdays and Wednesdays. She also works 3 days at a physical therapy clinic in Everett as well as seeing her island clientele in their homes. She brings a variety of specialities to the table including Deep Tissue,Therapeutic and Pregnancy massage. Glorious sunshine

The romance factor just went up a notch with warm rays on our beachfront here at Saratoga passage. I see couples strolling through town and on the waterfront soaking it up. We'll keep the shades up today to enjoy the gorgeous view.
